Giggs: Give Man United job to Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be named permanent Manchester United manager according to former team-mate Ryan Giggs, who insists the Premier League club have messed around far too long .

Solskjaer was appointed on a caretaker basis until the end of the season after Jose Mourinho was sacked in December and the Norwegian favourite has rejuvenated United.

United have only lost one of their 12 matches under Solskjaer in all competitions winning 10 to be fourth in the Premier League as they prepare to face Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be in contention for the United job but ex-assistant Giggs backed Solskjaer for the permanent role following the previous sackings of Mourinho, Louis van Gaal an…

Atalanta 1 Borussia Dortmund 1 (3-4 agg): Returning Schmelzer strikes late

Marcel Schmelzer s dramatic late goal sealed a 1-1 draw for Borussia Dortmund against Atalanta and booked their spot in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Dortmund captain Schmelzer has been out of action since December with an ankle injury and wasted no time in making an impact on his comeback as a half-time replacement for Jeremy Toljan, reacting first to Etrit Berisha s fumble to lash home and give the Bundesliga side a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Peter Stoger s side were second best all night and found themselves behind after just 11 minutes.

Goalkeeper Roman Burki, whose season has been plagued by high-profile errors, flapped at a corner and Rafael Toloi stole in at the back post to prod into an empty net.

The hosts squandered a number of golden opportuni…

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has revealed how a chance encounter with Javi Gracia in Spain coincided with his former team-mate s dismissal from Watford.

Gracia lost his job following a run of one draw and three defeats to start the Premier League season.

The ex-Osasuna, Malaga and Rubin Kazan head coach had travelled to his homeland during the international break and bumped into Emery in the Basque region.

Roma v Liverpool: Giallorossi have chance to write positive headlines

For the first time in 34 years, Roma are in the Champions League semi-finals.

The next obstacle in their fairytale run is Jurgen Klopp s scintillating Liverpool and former Giallorossi forward and newly crowned PFA Player of the Year Mohamed Salah.

But Roma s remarkable achievements have also evoked memories of their infamous 1984 European Cup campaign – the last time they reached the final four.

Roma overcame a 2-0 first-leg deficit to thwart Scottish underdogs Dundee United en route to the title decider, which they lost in a penalty shoot-out on home soil to Liverpool at the Stadio Olimpico.

Their exploits in 1984, however, were soured by claims of attempts to bribe the referee – news that was brought to light again seven years ago.

Lopetegui picks Navas over Courtois for Champions League clash with Roma

Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui has selected Keylor Navas rather than Thibaut Courtois for his first Champions League game in charge.

Courtois, who joined from Chelsea in the transfer window, has started each of Madrid s last two matches in LaLiga.
