Webb banned for life by FIFA

Former CONCACAF chief and FIFA vice-president Jeffrey Webb has been banned from all football-related activities for life by FIFA s independent Ethics Committee.

Webb pleaded guilty to one count of racketeering conspiracy, three counts of wire fraud conspiracy and three counts of money laundering conspiracy in the United States last November.

Charges were brought against Webb, and a number of other FIFA officials arrested in a police operation in May 2015, as part of an FBI-led investigation into widespread corruption in world football s governing body.

Formal proceedings were opened against Webb by the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA s Ethics Committee in May following a final report submitted by the investigatory chamber, with the outcome being a lifetime ban and f…

Competition: Ligue 1

Market: PSG to win and both teams to score against Amiens

Odds:

Looking to finish their campaign with triple digits, newly crowned Ligue 1 Champions PSG will travel to Amiens on Friday night.

For the hosts on Friday night, Christophe Pélissier s Amiens side have enjoyed an eye-catching first season in their first spell in Ligue 1. Coming off the back of a 0-0 draw with Champions League contenders Monaco last time out, Amiens have impressed in the final part of the campaign. Now with just one defeat in their last seven outings, more impressive for The Unicorns, they have only shipped one goal in their last four. However, Amiens have only managed to keep two clean sheets at home since November 2017 and also shipped two against th…

Allardyce: Rooney must wait for captaincy decision

New England boss Sam Allardyce would not commit to Wayne Rooney retaining the international captaincy as he was introduced by the national team.

The 61-year-old left Sunderland to sign a two-year deal with the Football Association on Friday, replacing Roy Hodgson after he resigned following a dismal last-16 exit to Iceland at Euro 2016.

Rooney was named captain after the 2014 World Cup and was skipper for the European Championship in France his first major tournament leading the team but Allardyce wants to wait before making a final decision on who will wear the armband.

Asked if Rooney would remain captain, he said: That is far too early to make any predictions or decisions and I m going to leave that until I meet all the players and get coaching staff behind t…

F.C. Porto striker Jackson Martinez has confirmed he will be joining Atletico Madrid on a four-year deal this summer.

The Colombia international, 28, will move to the Estadio Vicente Calderón for €35 million after turning down an offer to join Italian Serie A giants AC Milan.

I can confirm I am going to Atletico, said Martinez after Colombia were eliminated from the Copa America by Argentina on Friday.

Lawyer dismisses Milanetto, Genoa match-fixing claims

A lawyer defending Genoa and their former midfielder Omar Milanetto against match-fixing claims has predicted his clients will be cleared.

Milanetto and Genoa are charged with conspiring to fix a match against Lazio in May 2011, with the fixture forming part of the on-going Calcioscomesse investigation led by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

But Mattia Grassani insists the claims against Genoa and Milanetto are completely unfounded.

A sentence for Milanetto would be something that could only happen in science fiction, he told Italian news agency ANSA.

Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri has also been implicated in the alleged fixing of the Serie A clash, but could be given a reduced punishment amid reports of a plea bargain.

And Grassani believes such act…

Isla rubbishes Italy return rumours

Mauricio Isla has denied reports that he is looking to end his loan at QPR prematurely and return to Italy.

The Chile international penned a year-long deal at Loftus Road in the last transfer window after finding himself surplus to requirements at Juventus.

Isla initially struggled for form at QPR, as Harry Redknapp s men made a sluggish start in the Premier League, leading to suggestions he would look to move back to Serie A.

However, the 26-year-old put in a much improved showing as QPR defeated Aston Villa 2-0 on Monday and he insists he is committed to the club.

That [going back to Italy] was never going to happen, he told The London Evening Standard.

People talk but I ve never spoken about it. I ve not spoken to a single director at Juventu…

Burnley 2 Liverpool 0: Vokes and Gray bring Klopp´s side back to earth

Sam Vokes and Andre Gray scored their first Premier League goals as Burnley stunned Liverpool with a superb 2-0 victory at Turf Moor.

Playing on the road again as a result of renovation work at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp s men were unable to recapture the inspired form that secured a 4-3 win over Arsenal on the opening weekend.

Unfortunately for their manager, the defensive frailties displayed at Emirates Stadium were quickly evident once more as Wales international Vokes emphatically opened the scoring in the second minute.

Vokes was finding his feet following a serious knee injury during Burnley s 2014-15 foray into the top flight and failed to

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba hits out at ´lies´ over salary cut

Jordi Alba accused people of spreading misinformation regarding his willingness to take a pay cut at Barcelona, insisting he will join Gerard Pique in reducing his salary to help the club s dire financial situation.

After a tumultuous week that saw Lionel Messi complete his stunning switch to Paris Saint-Germain, Barca launched their LaLiga campaign with a 4-2 win over Real Sociedad in which Pique opened the scoring on Sunday.

The former Spain defender headed home a free-kick from new signing Memphis Depay, who was only playing because Pique agreed a substantial salary reduction that allowed Barcelona to register the Netherlands forward within their league-enforced salary limit.

Speaking after the match, where Martin Braithwaite scored two goals and laid on the g…

Man Utd´s Gill says Benitez ´missed the boat´

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has fired back at Rafael Benitez, saying the Liverpool boss missed the boat completely by suggesting he had a conflict of interest.

Benitez, who had earlier accused United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson of hypocrisy and serial whingeing, returned to the fray Monday to point a finger at Gill, a senior figure at England s governing Football Association.

Is there a conflict of interest with David Gill at the FA? asked Benitez, whose side could be overtaken by United at the top of the Premiership if the Red Devils win their two games in hand against Wigan and Bolton.

That is another fact. It is a fact that one person has a lot of power and control, and is on a lot of committees in the FA. To me that is very strange.
